Unlike much of how this story has been portrayed, we find an odd sense of comfort in the fact that it's come to this....a lone, ill-trained and poorly prepared Al-Queda operative reduced to blowing up his Fruit of the Looms on a flight to Detroit. What could have hurt worse...the indignation of his smoking pants in front of a hundred passengers or the burns on his butt? And so we have to ask again if sending 30,000 more soldiers to Afghanistan is going to actually have a long-range effect on reducing these almost laughable incidents or just risk more American lives for the real purpose of controlling the Middle Eastern oil fields and maintaining a massive military industrial complex. |
